Wear Like Iron November 26, 2007 Stephen Davis (Texas) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
As a point of disclosure - I did not purchase my Carhartt's through Amazon (shame on me - I know) but am a huge fan of the pants.
Fit:
The fit is true to size... sadly. I wish they would call the 40" waists either 20's or 'Medium'... but I digress... waist and length are accurate. Plenty of room in the thigh and crotch areas (thankfully).
Style:
The legs are not flared or weird - pretty straight. Not pleats, cuffs (duh) or fancy schmancy stitching on the pockets.
Features:
Double fronts add a layer of protection unrivaled in a single bifurcated garment. They resist abrasions, cut some of the wind/cold and add a bit of padding to your knees/thighs if you are kneeling or handling hot, wet, oily/greasy or other materials. There are several well positioned pockets, a hammer loop and a large tongue on the zipper which is easy to manipulate even with gloves on (don't ask me how I know this... my Bride thinks that the grass on the side of the house is dying due to a lack of sun!).
The additional layer of material along the front is attached about 98% of the way around. Along the bottom of the leg (in the shin area) the two layers are separated and not sewn together. This is most likely for drying and/or for a little ventilation.
There is also a layer of doubled material along the back of the garment around the ankle area for added wear protection there.
Negatives:
If you can call it a negative (or to the uninitiated Carhartt folks) the material is stiff. Even after many wash cycles they are stiff. Personally it doesn't bug me but some have commented about this negatively. If you are completely turned-off by this fear not.. Carhartt offers this same style in a more traditional jeans/dungarees material. Your mileage may vary.
Summary:
Great pants, wear like iron (I know - I said it 3 times...), definitely rugged and cool looking. Yeah - chicks dig 'em.
Tough Pants March 22, 2009 William C. Ayer (Truckee, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These pants are super durable. I use them for outdoor work and riding a motorcycle. The double knee/thigh is great for motorcycle riding they are however, significantly heavier than many other work pants and are pretty hot in the summer
amazing pants June 15, 2010 avraam jack (USA) Super heavy duty cotton but black so you can wear to the office.
They look good in black but they are tough denim.
Perfect, if you cannot stand girly dockers.
Bought one, bought a bunch more.
The only non office attribute is a few small bronze colored rivets, but if anybody is checking out your rivets, at least hope its the hot coworker, if you are lucky enough to have one.
Good pants, long. May 17, 2010 Dylan (CA, US) Good sturdy pants.
I bought these in 32" length since that is what I have always got most my life. These are really long though. I have to roll then up about 2 inches for them to look decent.
Tough but hot and stiff May 17, 2010 Daniel A. Richman (Langley, WA USA) These pants are clearly rugged and may even comfortable, assuming they get less stiff with a few washings. Time and washings may make them cooler, too. I hope so. They are uncomfortably hot to work in under conditions I'd have no problems with if I were wearing conventional jeans. I try to think of it as a weight-loss technique, but I'd really rather be cooler.
